19 things I’ve learned in 19 years

IMG_20170903_140750It’s Virgo season and it’s my birthday! Hooray, I have officially entered my 19th year on earth. It’s my last year of being a teenager, which is so crazy because I remember turning 13 and being so hype to say “I’M A TEEN.”

As I begin the journey of my final teenage year, I want to reflect on 19 things I have learned about myself and the world in 19 years.

1. Being myself is what makes me friends, not acting like what I think I should act like. If I have to be fake to make friends those people are not meant to be in my life.

2. Bras are actually not cool. For all the years, I thought I needed one to be cool, I played myself.

3. It is possible to learn from those that are younger. Just because I am older and want to feel like I know everything, it’s simple. I don’t. I can learn from literally anyone young or old.

4. It’s okay to feel uncomfortable with myself but to not let those uncomfortable feelings cloud my judgment in realizing, I’m a pretty cool human.

5. Everyone will not support all my decisions, but if I feel like it’s meant for me it’s okay to make my own path. That’s life.

6. Along with 5, everyone will not support my dreams and goals, and that’s okay. But it should never be a reason to quit. (Only quit if it’s really not for you.)

7. Doing things alone is not as bad as it’s made out to be. (Like going shopping.)

8. Losing friends is hard, but it’s okay to let go of old friendships. If I feel like a friendship is not holding up, I don’t have to be the one to save it. All relationships are a two-way street.

9. Making best friends can be done at any time in your life, not just elementary or high school. Don’t be afraid to get close to people at any time in your life.

10. Best friends are not measured by the amount of time I have known them. It’s about the connection.

11. It’s okay to fail. (I’m still having a hard time with this one.)

12. My family is very important, and are the best people to go to when I need a good laugh. Shout out to the Parker family.

13. You don’t need a boyfriend for any reason. (But mine is pretty cool.)

14. Doing things that you are afraid of doing is important. It’s a part of life to do things that are scary, they push you to be a better person and it might end up being something you love. (I was afraid of this blog at first.)

15. Just because someone else’s life seems like it’s going better and more successfully than mine, don’t dwell on it. Keep focusing on my own path. Life is not a race. I will succeed.

16. Feel free to try new things. If I don’t like it at least I tried, this goes for anything.

17. I’m really happy to be a black woman because black women are amazing. I never need to dislike who I am just because I am black.

18. Looking twelve will help me out in the end. (I will be looking 20 at 40)

19. Finally, always remain humble, but do be proud of myself, what I have been through, and who I am today through it all.

Happy birthday to me! I just want to thank God for another year, I am so happy!

I hope that what I have learned over these past years in my life can help you. I am still learning new things about myself and the world each day. It’s important to reflect on what you learn within your life. I have learned a lot more than this, but I would have to just write a book… which I will some day.
