Summer is here and I always have to serve fresh looks. But what better way to do so than with a new do. My hair has been through a lot, and a hair journey will be coming soon because CHILE I’ve been through it all. With the summer heat, I always try to protect my hair as well as I can. Doing a wash & go every week was not going to cut it. It is easy for me to get into the habit of not doing much to my hair in the summer because of the heat and laziness in general. Once it takes 30 minutes to just put my hair in a ponytail, I’m over it.
It has been absolutely too hot for me to actually take the time to style my hair, which ends up causing damage. I would hate to see my hard work of finally getting a defined curl pattern go to waste because of crazy Michigan summer heat. So I turned to my good sis and transformed my curly locks into beautiful gold box braids.
Box braids or any braid for that matter are perfect for the summer because not only is my hair protected…it’s undeniably gorgeous. I decided to go with a golden hair color for the warm months because why not and it’s always exciting to drastically change up a look without it being permanent.
To prep my hair for the braids:
I washed my hair with T-sal shampoo, which is a dandruff cleanser to ensure there are no flakes when my hair is parted. The shampoo also relieves itchiness, which is a big issue when braids are installed.
After washing I conditioned with Maui Moisture color protection conditioner, this was my first time using this brand and it simply got the job done.
To ensure my hair would not be dry underneath the weave, I parted my hair into four sections and added Cantu hair lotion and my special blend of oils. I then braided each section and let them air dry overnight. The day of my hair braiding I blow dried each section because my hair is a beast! No matter how much I detangle it, it will tangle right back up. Blow drying eliminates the extreme tangling and helps the roots lay down in the braid.
I used the braiding hair brand Xpressions in the color 27.
It took me a minute to get used to seeing such a light hair color in the mirror, but I will say I love my braids! And I adore being able to change my look and experiment with different colors!
