With the summer heat or the brutal Michigan winter, I always want to make sure my hair is far from dry. While moisturizing products alone can do the trick, nothing helps seal and lock moisture in like oils. Oils are used as a sealant, which is important for any type of hair (straight hair needs less oil!) because it protects it from many causes of damage that may happen in your everyday routine.
I have a dry scalp and typically have very dry hair. I use a large amount of product and oil, but everyone has different hair types that may require different amounts of product and oil. Trying other oils that are lighter (grapeseed) or heavier (olive oil) is important depending on your specific hair type. My hair loves oil light or heavy, and I typically mix them all up anyway.
To keep my hair moisturized through all conditions, I use a blend of oils I created that work well for my hair type. I apply this blend to my scalp and ends to ensure moisture and protection no matter what hairstyle.
My Oil Blend:
- Olive oil: benefits- reduces dandruff, helps split ends, gives hair extra shine, softens hair.
- Grapeseed oil: benefits- hair growth, prevents frizz, strengthens hair, reduces dandruff
- Black Castor oil: benefits- moisturizes, promotes growth, prevent breakages, reduce dandruff
- Vitamin E oil: benefits- hydrates & moisturizes, prevents hair loss, revives scalp health
- Coconut oil: benefits- promotes hair growth, reduces dandruff and itchiness from bug bites, prevents breakage, adds shine

Add each oil to a bottle and shake well. Apply oil when styling or as needed. Honestly, I eyeball how much of each oil I add to my bottle. I typically use more olive and grapeseed oil, then a little less of everything else.
How do you keep your hair moisturized?
