using TPH for wash day

is it worth the hype?

Since being in quarantine I ran out of every last hair product. I’m not exaggerating, I had to make a quick online target run to replenish my stock. I was basically starting fresh so I decided it was time to give some new products a chance. I bought the TPH Never Salty sugar scrub ($14) and the Honey Fresh moisturizing shampoo ($10). Surprisingly, I did not watch any reviews on this before purchasing, which is rare for me, therefore all my opinions are truly first impressions.

Since purchasing, I have used the products three times so far and these are my thoughts:

Starting with the sugar scrub, I was excited about this purchase because my scalp always needs extra TLC. As I mentioned in my YouTube video, I often have a dry, itchy, and irritated scalp. Wash days are extremely important for me because it ensures that I cleanse everything out while adding moisture. This scrubs two key ingredients are apple cider vinegar and peppermint oil. These had my scalp feeling amazing. I love products that make my scalp have a minty-tingling sensation.

The sugar scrub bottle is squeezable and has two tubes to let out the product. I remember when the line first was launched, Taraji spoke about her products being good for braided hair. I personally am not a huge fan of the two tubes because they became easily tangled into my hair. I do think that if my hair was braided, I would appreciate the tubes more.

Moving on to the actual product itself, the first thing that I noticed was that the product was thick. I was happy about this because using a runny scrub to target the scalp is not ideal. As I massaged the product in my scalp the first time, I was disappointed because the mint feeling did not come immediately. To my surprise, after working the product in, I was hit with a wave of coolness. The smell in the shower was the icing on the cake, it is that strong! The scent will transform your entire bathroom into a minty oasis. If you are not big on scent, this product is definitely not for you.

Now to get into the moisturizing shampoo, I usually don’t have much to say about shampoos because I feel like they all get the job done (unless they are noticeable drying). Using this shampoo after the sugar scrub, felt like the perfect combination on my scalp. It felt clean without leaving a squeaky feeling on my hair. This claims to be a moisturizing shampoo, and I like to think that it is. After rinsing out, my hair was left feeling clean and SOFT. Most shampoos are drying and leave my hair thirsting for an entire bottle of conditioner. I did not get that feeling at all with this product.

Overall, I will say that these are two great products to add in your wash day routine. It will leave your scalp feeling clean and moisturized. After trying these, I am more open to trying some of TPH’s other products. If there is a product you would like to see me review, comment the product below.
