London EATS finale| weeks 4-6

As my trip to London came to a close, I got really busy with making sure I enjoyed my time and completed my assignments. I neglected my blog and YouTube, but I didn’t stop thinking of what else to create!

I’m now starting my adventure in NYC and want to wrap up my London travels. Starting with my “London EATS” and wrapping up with an overall view of London.

Overall, the food options in London were limitless, I was able to try things from all different cultures. One thing I did not eat during my trip was traditional English food because I was not at all interested in it. I couldn’t imagine myself getting excited over baked beans and Yorkshire pudding. So I stirred clear of those meals and enjoyed everything else!

The following are places that I tried during my last three weeks across the pond!

Fish, Wings, and Tings– During my time in Brixton, a borough in London, I was able to find a large variety of foods. This was a Caribbean restaurant that included everything from jerk chicken to plantains. I ordered the jerk chicken in tamarind bbq sauce, rice & beans, and a pineapple & mango chutney. My meal was beyond appetizing, the jerk chicken had a sweet flavor and fell right off the bone. The entire meal left me wanting more even after I was full. If you ever end up in London and want to eat at “fish, wings, and tings,” don’t forget to bring cash!

Healthy Eaters– Still in Brixton, I had a second jerk chicken meal, but this time it was from a Jamaican restaurant. The chicken was spicy, I was able to cool my mouth down with a potato salad. Overall, I was satisfied with my second jerk chicken meal.

God’s Own Junkyard– Though this place is not known for its food, and instead for its light displays. They have a nice menu for breakfast, treats, and drinks. I ordered a mocktail mojito that was not only delicious but carefully crafted. After sitting and enjoying the view for hours, while having a terrible cough, my friends ordered me lemon & ginger tea. God’s own junkyard is the perfect place to take pictures and relax with a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic.)

The Blue’s  Kitchen– I visited Blue’s Kitchen on a Sunday and was surprised by how many people were at the bar. No, I was not at this bar to drink, I stopped here for dinner! I didn’t have much of an appetite this day, I ordered mac & cheese with seasoned chips. The mac & cheese was surprisingly good (I don’t typically trust everyone,) it did need a little salt, but overall tasty. The fries were fries and tasted good as they should.

Mexican Grill Camden– Camden market is full of many different food stands and stores, but on this particular rainy day, I was craving tacos. Although I did not get tacos, I did get packed chicken quesadillas that were filling and good. The tortillas are stuffed with a chicken and pepper blend, then topped with whatever your heart desires. It was too big to finish in one sitting but was just as delicious as a leftover.

Itsu– Sushi is a tough one, some places can do it just right and others… not so much. I got Itsu using a delivery service, I ordered California rolls, salmon rolls, and miso soup. Of course, the miso was good, I haven’t had a bad soup yet *knocks on wood*. The sushi was good as well, it was my first time having salmon rolls, I was a little nervous about it. I was surprised that I found a new sushi roll to add to my order list! My only complaint is that the rolls were nearly covered in sesame seeds as they went a bit overboard. Besides, that 8/10 would recommend.

Bubble wrap Camden– I loved the first time I tried bubble wrap in London, this time… well the waffle was good. This place was rushed and did not really give much attention to the ice cream, only the waffle. At the first bubble wrap place, I went to the ice cream was made there, but at this place, I was given normal freezer section ice cream. Now don’t get me wrong that could be good, but it was not. I enjoyed the fruit and the waffles but I would not recommend getting the bubble wrap here.

Paella Stand on Portobello– Portobello road is a huge street market that is popular on the weekend. I went on a Saturday morning and spent a good amount of time picking up gifts for my family and myself. As my hunger rose, I had way too many options for food and ended up getting seafood paella. The paella had a mix of prawns, mussels, and calamari; I was scared to try the calamari but I actually liked it. I loved this street paella and was full after eating!

Cigalon– For my programs farewell dinner, we dined at a French restaurant. French meals are tiny!!! I started with a crunchy salad and courgette purée, it was small but had good flavor. Our table was also served warm bread alongside an olive purée for dipping. My main course was seared coley, baby gem, and white asparagus velouté, this dish was good but was lacking a bit in seasoning. To make the most out of my dish, I added some of the olive purée, which gave the fish needed flavor. Lastly, for dessert, I had strawberry, lemon, and elderflower cheesecake, I love cheesecake and was excited about trying this one. It came in a cute tiny jar, it was delicious but so tiny. After this meal, I can tell I’m not that big a fan of French cuisine but it is not the worse.

Food in London can be hit or miss, I went in with an open mind and got some good out!
